" How to Encourage English Department Students to Speak English More Often and Confidently "

There are many students who want to speak English but they are afraid and they are not confident. It is because they are afraid of making mistakes and failing to find suitable words to express themselves well. If the teach try to encourage them to speak by using as many ways as possible and creating a good language speaking environment, students will speak actively and naturally.

First, you must set goal. It is done for the student so that they understand about the reason they should study and speak English more often and confidently.

Present yourself as an English speaker. Reply your students said in English patiently. Use pictures, gestures, facial expression and rephrasing to get your message across.

Furthermore, there are many activities to encourage students speak English :

• ·         Start each lesson by asking students about their activities, about the information that you may need to know or simple requests for help
•  Avoid asking “Do you understand?” Try to get more comments with questions to check understanding 
•   Get students to refer to an English-English dictionary
•    Practise and encourage all common classroom request.

You can make the competition. A competition to motivate the student to speak English more. Games or reward-based speaking activities are very useful tools that allow students of all ages to practice valuable skills.

The way of write first, speak later. For students who struggle to speak English, it can be very helpful to write out a script first and then practice speaking it. Writing gives students the time to think through what they will say, check their grammar and look up any words or phrases they don’t know. Students need time to practice talking, with this way they can speak more confident and brave.

Sometimes students might simply lose interest in a certain speaking activity. To avoid this, use different methods to motivate students by challenging them. You can have them record their conversations, sing along to songs or present material to the class. Finding new ways to incorporate speaking will keep lessons fresh and interesting, which will help students stay engaged.
