Purworejo Station
When the
colonial period Purworejo had strategic value according to the Dutch
Government. One of fact is the construction and archaeological remains of the
railway line in Purworejo. There are many train stations in Purworejo, such as
Kutoarjo Station, Purworejo Station, Jenar Station, etc. Most of them are built
by Dutch. Not all of them can be used to traffic of train's actively. Purworejo
Station is one of station in Purworejo that is not active traffic.
Purworejo
Station located at Mayjend Sutoyo, Purworejo, Central Java and it is in operation
area 5 Purwokerto. This station is managed by PT KAI (persero). It was built by
train state company of Dutch goverment (Staats Spoowegen). It was opened and activated
at July 20th 1887.
This station
has the building structure from the material of bricks as high 8 m and area total
is about 848 m². The station is in position of high +63m dpt. It has many doors
with and colours brown and white . Signal system still using the system signal mechanic
Alkmar and there is no input signal. There is just output signal as the
direction to Kutoarjo Station.
Purworejo
station was closed three times ;
- When Japan period (1952-1955) then it was activated and became plot stripe in transfer to Djawatan Kereta Api (DKA)
- It was closed again in 1977 and when decade of 1990 it was opened again
- Now, the station is not active because; railway and railway's bolster are not suitable, there is no little stone enough to prop railway and road's structure is not weight or tonage of train.
Balai Pelestarian Peninggalan Purbakala (BPPP) of Central Java input Purworejo station as one of cultural heritage in Purworejo and it is protected by the country.
